Stocks to watch on Friday

Stocks of interest on the Australian Securities Exchange on Friday:

ANZ – ANZ BANKING GROUP – up 51 cents, or 1.7 per cent, at $30.98

ANZ expects the economy to grow more slowly in 2015 but says the longer term outlook for Australia remains strong.

FXJ – FAIRFAX MEDIA – up 4.5 cents, or 5.9 per cent, at 80.5 cents

MRN – MACQUARIE RADIO – up eight cents, or 6.8 per cent, at $1.26

Fairfax is reportedly close to securing a merger of its radio operations with rival Macquarie Radio.

LEI – LEIGHTON HOLDINGS – up 83 cents, or four per cent, at $21.78

Construction giant Leighton is handing over a 50 per cent share in its services operations to a US investment firm in a deal valuing the business at $1.075 billion.

MND – MONADELPHOUS – up 72 cents, or 8.7 per cent, at $8.98

Engineering group Monadelphous says it’s not been properly paid for work on a Queensland coal terminal, and accuses the project owners of unfairly taking almost $20 million of its money.

NAB – NATIONAL AUSTRALIAN BANK – up 38 cents, or 1.2 per cent, at $31.73

The falling Australian dollar may take expected interest rate cuts off the table next year, National Australia Bank chairman Michael Chaney says.

TLS – TELSTRA – up six cents, or one per cent, at $5.82

Spark, Vodafone and Telstra have confirmed they will spend $US70 million ($A75.74 million) building a new trans-Tasman telecommunications cable next year.
