Uranium miner Paladin Energy says an employee has died, almost a month after receiving significant burns in an electrical incident at its Langer Heinrich Mine in Namibia.

Three people, an employee and two contractors, were hurt in the incident on the afternoon of October 3.

“It is with considerable regret that Paladin advises that the most seriously injured worker passed away today at Millpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa,” Paladin said in a statement on Thursday.

The company said one of the injured contract workers had recovered completely while the other remained in hospital in Windhoek, Namibia, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Paladin said an investigation into the incident was being finalised.

It comes three months after a worker was killed in the tyre fitting workshop at the company’s Kayelekera mine in Malawi.

Paladin is cutting jobs and costs in response to falls in the price of uranium.
